Has a franchise cornerstone ever laid a bigger egg on the big stage than Freddie Freeman did in the NLDS last year? If injuries were to blame for his on-field performance, he had no business playing. His public criticism of his teammate, and his team’s best player, is inexcusable. The failure to come to that teammates defense when he became a target during the Game 5 blowout should color the rest of his career.
When the team needed him most, he shed his leadership responsibilities and led the Braves into another post-season disappointment. I expect that Freeman will be fully healed in 2020. I expect that he will again put up his fantastic offensive numbers. I expect that he will again play his position well. I just hope he learns from his mistakes.
On that though, I have my doubts.
