1971 Topps Rico Carty 270 - Braves Card of the Day ⚾
If I were to make a list of my least favorite players from the 60s, Clete Boyer would be near the top. I do not like the guy. Nothing I’ve read about him has convinced me that he’s anything but a dick. He did NOT like Rico Carty. That pretty much cements the reasons that Carty is one of my favorites.
Carty was a better baseball player than Boyer in every way. Carty was loud though and he rubbed some people the wrong way, including, admittedly, the Hammer, so the Braves traded him away for reasons that had nothing to do with baseball. The Braves received Jim Panther in the deal, who you’ve never heard of and never will again.
The Braves have been making stupid “baseball” decisions forever.
