1977 Topps Rookie Catchers 476 - Braves Card of the Day ⚾

Rick Cerone would make his way to Atlanta in 1985 and spend a single season in Atlanta where he was kind of bad. Of course, he’s not the reason I love this baseball card.

This is the first baseball card of Braves great Dale Murphy. If you were an Atlanta fan of the TBS era, then Dale Murphy was your favorite baseball player. Sure, you loved Bob Horner, Phil Nekro, and Gene Garber, but Murphy was the man. It was his face on milk cartons. It was his face on magazines. It was his picture on the sports page nightly.

Dale Murphy was such a good guy that it’s hard for me to imagine people who dislike him, but I guarantee that they exist. For those of us who came of age watching him on TBS, he remains our favorite and our idea of what a great player and a great man should be. He’s a fitting heir to Hank Aaron as the next “great Braves player”.
